Meet The Teacher
Hi, I'm Natalie!
I've been making music for as long as I can remember. I was really lucky to grow up in a house with two musical parents: A mother who plays the piano, and a father who plays the violin and the mandolin. I remember falling asleep as my mother practiced for her ATCL exam after my bedtime and some of the songs she played then are still amongst my favourites now.
I started formally learning the piano when I was 5, and by the time I was 15 I was sitting my Trinity College Grade 8 exam. I was inspired by a couple of wonderful teachers and getting to that level involved a LOT of practice!
I began teaching piano in 2018 when my first student was sent my way by a friend. I jumped in with both feet and made the 'teacher' title more formal by working through the Institute of Registered Music Teacher's diploma course, passing with distinction. My studio has grown steadily ever since, and most students find their way to me by word of mouth.

Why learn piano?
The piano is a beautiful instrument to play, and it provides numerous benefits for both the mind and body. Here are 10 reasons you need to give it a go:
-
Developing musical literacy: Piano is often used as the foundation for learning music theory and understanding musical notation.
-
Improving hand-eye coordination: Piano playing requires coordination between the hands, which can improve fine motor skills.
-
Boosting cognitive skills: Piano playing can improve memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills.
-
Encouraging creativity: The piano offers a wide range of musical possibilities, encouraging players to express their creativity through composition or improvisation.
-
Relieving stress: Piano playing can be a therapeutic activity that can relieve stress and anxiety.
-
Bringing joy and fulfillment: The act of playing piano can bring joy and fulfillment to the player and listeners alike.
-
Facilitating social connections: Piano playing can provide opportunities for playing with others and getting to know other musicians.
-
Offering opportunities for performance: Piano playing can provide opportunities for solo or ensemble performance.
-
Providing a lifelong skill: Piano playing is a lifelong skill that can bring enjoyment and purpose at any stage of life.
-
Versatility: Pianos and keyboards can be played in bands of many styles, including pop, rock, jazz, blues, reggae, soul, R'n'B, you name it.
And a bonus #11: Piano sounds great from the first lesson! You won't have to hide away from the family as you play your first few notes like you may want to with some other instruments...
Whether you want to play for personal enjoyment, perform in front of an audience, or accompany other musicians, the piano is an incredibly versatile and rewarding instrument to learn. So why not try it out and see for yourself?
