Studio Policy

It is in the interest of all parties concerned that the following terms and conditions are understood and followed throughout the duration of tuition. Please read through this document before commencing lessons - payment of fees and commencement of lessons will indicate acceptance of these terms.

1. Fees

An invoice will be emailed at the commencement of each term (or on a weekly basis if this is arranged with the Teacher) and must be paid in a timely manner. Late payment could result in refusal to give lessons.

Fees may be reviewed on a yearly basis.

Lessons are $35 per ½ hour.

2. Music Lesson Attendance

Weekly attendance to scheduled, ongoing music lessons will be expected of all Students. A term, once commenced, must be completed, or paid for in full. Please give as much notice as possible if a Student will be absent and the lesson may be rescheduled at the Teacher’s discretion. Unexplained absences will not be rescheduled. The Teacher will give as much notice as possible for any lessons that cannot be fulfilled and offer alternative lesson arrangements or a lesson credit for the following term. Lessons will not continue during school holidays except by prior arrangement.

3. Illness

It is vital that Students who are unwell do not attend their lesson in person . If they have mild cold or flu symptoms but are feeling well enough, their lesson can be held at the usual time online. Alternatively, the lesson may be rescheduled after the Student has recovered if there is a time available that suits both teacher and student. The teacher reserves the right to refuse to teach a student who arrives at a lesson obviously unwell.

4. Punctuality

Music lessons must run to schedule. Lessons will finish on time even if the Student arrives late.

5. Data Protection

All information, both verbal and written, acquired for the purpose of music lessons will be held in strictest confidence and will not be made available to any third party without prior consent.

6. Disclaimer

If lessons are occurring at Natalie Chapman Piano Studio at 15A Ngahere Views in Orewa, any belongings, for example, school bags, devices, vehicles, or personal items, are brought onto the above property entirely at the Student's own risk. The Student will be responsible for any loss or damage incurred by them to any item belonging to the Teacher.

7. Practice

The Student should ensure that they spend some time playing their instrument during the week. By practicing the material covered in the lessons the Student will progress more quickly.

8. Photographs, videos & recordings

Photographs, videos and recordings may be taken in the course of music lessons for learning purposes. These may be shared on the private Natalie Chapman Piano Studio Facebook page to celebrate student achievement after consulting with the student. Any photos or videos shared to the private group may not be made public (e.g., copied to your own social media) unless they are of your own child/you, or you have obtained consent. Please advise the teacher if you do NOT consent to this.

9. Online Lessons

If in-person lessons are not able to occur, online lessons may be offered as an alternative. To ensure optimum lesson experience, please make sure the Student is in a quiet space with minimal disruptions. Supervision from a parent or adult caregiver throughout the lesson is essential, in case of unexpected issues (i.e., WIFI connection, incorrect camera angle).

Lesson credits will not be offered for discontinued or disrupted lessons due to connection issues from the student’s end.

All students agree not to record (audio and/or visual) these Skype lessons in any way.

All students under the age of 13 must operate Skype strictly under the supervision of their parents or caregivers.

10. Termination of Agreement

Whilst the Teacher will use every effort to ensure the Student makes satisfactory progress, this cannot be guaranteed. A decision to discontinue lessons may be taken by the Teacher and/or the Student, in which case as much notice as possible shall be given by the party seeking to discontinue.
